Tag Tots Rugby – An exciting, fun way for kids to learn sport
Tag Tots Rugby has been designed to aid in the development of your child’s social and core motor skills.
Perhaps most importantly, Tag Tots begins by providing a great medium for parents and children to bond together in a fun, learning environment. From here, as a child grows, so does their confidence and ability in the sport of Rugby.
Tag Tots classes begin with our Wallaby sessions from the age of 2 and progress through to “intro to contact Rugby” sessions for children in school year 4 and above.
Children’s basic motor skills are balance, co-ordination and agility. To develop these, Tag Tots focuses on fun and exciting running, jumping, throwing and catching games. We use tag belts in all our classes to develop evasion and spacial awareness skills. Our unique SuperStar Awards program is focused on developing the social skills of every child who attends Tag Tots. The focus for our classes is as follows:
- Wallabies = Confidence and Independence
- Lions = Listening and Co-operation
- Sharks = Teamwork and Sportsmanship
Tag Tots core classes of Wallabies, Lions and Sharks are a gentle introduction to rugby that progress in line with the age and ability of the players. Lots of the games we play are adapted to incorporate specific rugby skills. For example, during a Wallabies lesson, placing a ball in a hoop in a correct manner is actually the same process used to score a try in normal rugby. Also, running around cones or avoiding being “tagged” are all basic evasion skills which are a requirement of all good rugby players. These are not coached at such an early age, but are simply introduced subconsciously to ingrain good habits early.
